How much does the geo-referencing package cost?

Geo-referenced plates and diagrams are included with the optional ForeFlight Pro package. This plan is an additional $74.99/year upgrade for existing subscribers - the most inexpensive geo-referenced plate plan in the App Store! New users can purchase the Pro package for $149.99/year, which includes the traditional ForeFlight subscription and the new geo-referenced features.

I already bought the base ForeFlight package. How do I upgrade to Pro?

Go to http://www.foreflight.com/buy and enter your ForeFlight email address on the checkout form and your credit will be computed and automatically applied. Make sure to use the same email that you used when you originally purchased your ForeFlight subscription.
After your purchase is complete, go into the 'Accounts' section inside the app, wait about 10 seconds, and your plan name will change to 'ForeFlight Pro'. You'll be able to immediately start seeing geo-ref information on U.S. plates and diagrams.

If I'm upgrading, do I have to pay the full $149.99 price?

No, any time remaining under your existing subscription will be credited towards the price of the upgrade plan. Follow the instructions in the previous item for obtaining your credit.

How can I tell if a plate or diagram has geo-referencing?

Look for the faint blue box around the geo-referenced area. Your aircraft will only be displayed when it is within this area.

Do I need to download anything after purchasing the ForeFlight Pro plan?

No. As soon as you purchase, you'll be able to immediately start using geo-referenced plates and diagrams. As part of the purchasing process we update the data inside the app to enable the new functionality.

I bought ForeFlight Pro but geo-referencing isn't showing up.

Follow these troubleshooting tips:
Go into 'Accounts' and confirm that your plan reads 'ForeFlight Pro'. If not, wait 10 seconds for the plan to download to your device. If it still doesn't show up, try signing out of your account and then signing back in.
Go to the 'About' screen, located in the 'More' tab on the iPad and in the 'About' icon on the iPhone. At the top of the screen is the version number - make sure it reads 3.9 or higher. If it reads 3.8 or lower, you'll need to update the app from the App Store.
Go to 'Downloads' and make sure you have downloaded the latest version of the Airport Database and Terminal Procedures.
Make sure you are viewing a plate or diagram that has geo-referencing. Geo-referencing is not available on arrivals, departures, text documents, and airports outside of the United States.
If you see the faint blue box but do not see your aircraft position, that means your GPS is having a problem getting a fix. See our GPS tips for help.

Did you raise the price on the normal subscription?

No! If you don't wish to upgrade, don't worry - we're still offering the same base subscription for $74.99/year with all of the features you expect: bulk downloads, NACO plates, moving map, geo-referenced VFR sectionals, geo-referenced IFR enroute charts, radar, satellite, and more. The ForeFlight Pro package only adds the new geo-referencing capability for plates and taxiway diagrams.

Do I need the Pro plan to see moving map?

No. Upgrading to ForeFlight Pro only adds georeferencing to instrument procedures and taxi diagrams. Moving map and georeferencing on VFR sectionals and IFR charts are included with the standard ForeFlight subscription.

Do I need the Pro plan to see instrument procedures or taxi diagrams?

No. The standard ForeFlight subscription includes instrument procedures and taxi diagrams for U.S. airports. Upgrading to Pro only adds geo-referencing information to these plates in order to see aircraft position.

Are geo-referenced plates a replacement for my aircraft's avionics?

No. Geo-referenced airport diagrams and plates can improve situational awareness on the ground, but are not certified for navigation. Pilots should always fly the aircraft using the aircraft's certified avionics. Never make course or altitude changes based on the data given by the device - always fly using your panel instrumentation. Additionally, personal electronic devices such as the iPad and iPhone can take attention away from the most important and demanding task: flying the airplane and arriving safely. Use personal electronic devices in an aircraft only when workload and conditions permit. Always enhance your iOS device's GPS performance by using an external, Apple-approved GPS accessory.

Can I keep the GPS readouts at the bottom of the screen from hiding?

Yes. Go into ForeFlight Settings to and set 'Auto-hide Toolbar' for the Instrument Procedure View to OFF.

Are geo-referenced instrument procedures available outside the United States?

No. Currently we only offer instrument procedures and taxi diagrams for United States airports.

I already bought a ChartData package directly from Seattle Avionics or another company. Can I use that within ForeFlight?

No. Due to our licensing agreement, we are only able to provide geo-referencing through the ForeFlight Pro plan. We have worked hard to make ForeFlight Pro the best value in the App Store for geo-referenced plates and diagrams.
