We hope you can find all the answers to your questions in our comprehensive FAQs. We have also created helpful videos that can answer many questions about using our apps.

I downloaded ForeFlight 8 but do not see the new Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Maps. What's wrong?

The Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Maps are included in the Basic Plus and Pro Plus subscriptions. If you have Basic or Pro, please visit our Secure Website Purchase Page and enter your current subscription email address to upgrade. You’ll receive a pro-rated credit for the unused time on your current plan, which will apply towards the purchase of a 1-year Basic Plus or Pro Plus subscription.

How much space do the Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Maps require to download?

The Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Maps data is included in the Airport and Nav Database, which is approximately 175MB to download, and the Business Directory, which is approximately 60MB to download. These file sizes are essentially unchanged from ForeFlight Mobile 7.7.2.

The two files are compressed when being downloaded, so together they consume approximately 1 GB of storage space once expanded and installed.

I have a Basic or Pro subscription and want to try out the Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Maps before upgrading my subscription. How can I request a trial?

We would be happy to activate a short trial so you can see what the data-driven maps have to offer. Please contact us at team@foreflight.com to request a trial.

Can I overlay the Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Maps layer on any chart?

Yes, over any chart that is included in your subscription. Or you can turn off all charts and instead use the clean, de-cluttered Aeronautical data layer over the base map (similar to the old "World map".)

Are the Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Maps available on all iPads and iPhones?

ForeFlight 8 requires iOS 9.2 or higher, which means that the iPad 2 or newer, and the iPhone 4S or newer can run ForeFlight 8.

Are the Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Maps a legal replacement for charts?

Although they are a great tool for improving situational awareness, and can be overlaid over VFR and IFR charts in the US and Canada, they are not currently intended to completely replace charts. You should continue to download the appropriate charts, and use the Pack feature before your flight to ensure everything is up to date.

How do I change the items (airways, airspace, etc.) that are displayed on the Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Map?

To change aeronautical items, such as airways, airspace, ARTCC boundaries and more, tap the Maps Settings button  at the top of the Maps page.  From the pop-over, scroll down to the AERONAUTICAL section and adjust the settings to match your preferences.

How do I change the Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Map color scheme?

To change the color of the Data-Driven Global Aeronautical Maps, tap the Maps Settings button  at the top of the Maps page.  Tap on MAP THEME and choose from Classic, Light, or Dark.

    Where is the "World Map"?

In ForeFlight 8 the "World Map" is gone, replaced by a worldwide "base" map that is always displayed "underneath" any selected chart. This means if you pan off of the edge of the selected chart, you'll still see map data.

If you have a Basic Plus or Pro Plus subscription, to display a simple view similar to the old "World Map", tap the Maps drop-down and de-select the Aeronautical layer.

If you have a Basic or Pro subscription (which cannot access the Aeronautical layer) you can display a simple view similar to the old "World Map" by de-selecting all charts in the Maps drop-down.
