¶ How many devices can I use my subscription on?
The individual subscriptions allow you to use ForeFlight Mobile on 1 iPad, 1 iPhone, or 1 iPod Touch, simultaneously. A second iPad is allowed only as a backup device. The iPads can be any mix of models. All devices are to be used by the same pilot.
For business subscriptions of 2 or more licenses, each user may use ForeFlight Mobile on 1 iPad, 1 iPhone, and 1 iPod Touch (no second iPad as backup).
Please do not share your username and password with a friend, as your account may be locked out.
See our Getting Started Page for instructions on how to install and activate ForeFlight Mobile over Wi-Fi directly to your device.
¶ Is ForeFlight Mobile supported outside the United States?
Yes! Every subscription includes data for one geographical region, such as the US or Canada, but a second region can be added for $100. A US subscription also has IFR High and Low Charts for the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America. Further, we support basic information for a large number of international airports throughout the world.
¶ Which model iPad should I buy? What about accessories?
Please visit our ForeFlight Buying Guide page for our recommendations on buying an iPad and accessories.
¶ I forgot my account password. How do I retrieve it?
You can reset your password within ForeFlight Mobile by going to the 'More' page and then tap on the 'Accounts' line on the upper left. Tap on 'Sign In' on the right side of the page and then enter your account email address. Once you have done that, tap on the 'Forgot Password?' button. A new temporary password will be emailed to the email address you entered.
¶ What is the Pack feature?
Pack is an easy to use feature that allows you to verify you have all the downloads you need for a specific route of flight. You can learn more in our Pilot's Guide and watch our Pack video.
¶ How do I view the items I have packed using the Pack feature?
The 'Pack' feature supplements your regular downloads. There is no need to access the 'packed' items directly. The items downloaded using 'Pack' are for your planned route of flight and are accessible as you use the features within ForeFlight Mobile. For instance, if you want to look up airport information for an airport along your planned route, you can view the downloaded 'Pack' information for the airport in the Airports page. If you need to view a map on your planned route, you can do so on the Maps page.
Please see our blog post about managing your downloads and pack.
¶ What is Sync within ForeFlight Mobile?
Sync is a fast, cloud-based system that works seamlessly in the background to synchronize Recent and Favorite Airports, Routes, Weather Imagery, User Waypoints, Aircraft Profiles, Flight Plans (both filed and un-filed), Briefings, Weight & Balance Profiles, and Logbook between all devices signed into your ForeFlight account. Because sync’d information is also stored in the cloud, changes made on one device will automatically be delivered to the other device when it is connected to the Internet. You can learn more in our Pilot's Guide or by watching our Sync video below.
IMPORTANT: Sync is disabled by default for multi-pilot accounts with a shared single login.
¶ Can I import User Waypoints or Shapefiles in .CSV or .KML file formats?

¶ How can I maximize my iPad or iPhone battery run time?
Most iPads will use 10%-20% of the iPad's battery per hour. iPhone battery life will vary greatly based upon individual usage habits. To maximize your iPad or iPhone battery run time, ForeFlight suggests the following:
1. Close all apps running in the background by using the double-click-trick (see below).
2. Reduce brightness as much as practical.
3. Turn off Wifi, Bluetooth, Cellular Data, and Personal Hotspot. Note: you may need Wifi and/or Bluetooth turned on if you are using Stratus, an external GPS, or a bluetooth headset.
Adding an external charger will also increase the battery run time, however, some devices will continue to lose charge, even with a charger attached. ForeFlight recommended chargers are here:
Here is the double-click-trick, which is used to stop apps that are running in background and continue to consume battery power:
1. Exit ForeFlight and go to the main iPhone or iPad home screen
2. Press the home button at the bottom of the iPhone or iPad twice in a row (Double Click). Apps in use will be displayed in the center of the screen. If they don't appear - please try again until they do.
3. Find the other apps that do not need to be running by swiping through the apps left or right.
4. Touch the app preview window for the app you want to close and swipe it upwards off of the screen. This will stop the app from running in the background. Repeat for the other apps.
5. Tap on the home button to exit.
6. Tap the ForeFlight Mobile icon to open ForeFlight.
¶ Does the iPhone version have the same features as the iPad version?
Due to the difference in screen size, the Documents and Plates 'organizer' feature, ScratchPads, alphanumeric keyboard, Altitude Advisor, Procedure Advisor, Route Advisor, Runway Proximity Advisor, Traffic Pattern Advisor, and Synthetic Vision are available only on the iPad version.
To be clear, the iPhone does show approach plates, taxiway diagrams, and procedures, but not the Plates 'organizer' feature, which is only on the iPad.
¶ Can I get updated weather in flight? Is XM or ADS-B weather supported?
Yes, ForeFlight Mobile supports in-flight weather. At this time, both XM and ADS-B (aka FIS-B) are supported. Weather is also available through an in-flight Internet connection.
For more about ADS-B/FIS-B weather within foreFlight Mobile, please visit our Stratus Information page.
For more information about XM weather in ForeFlight Mobile, please visit our XM Information page.
Also take a look at the Devices and Connectivity playlist in our Video Library for videos about devices that you can connect to inflight.
¶ Is ForeFlight Mobile a moving map?
Yes. ForeFlight Mobile has many useful features, including moving map functionality, which allows subscribers to view their current location on a VFR sectional chart or an IFR enroute chart. ForeFlight Mobile also displays data readouts on the included Instrument Panel, which includes such items as speed, track, GPS altitude, ETA/ETE information, and a lot more. With a Pro or Pro Plus subscription, geo-referenced plates and taxi diagrams are enabled, which display aircraft's position on approach plates and taxiway diagrams.
¶ Can I add data to the ForeFlight Mobile app?
Yes. ForeFlight Mobile includes a BYOP (bring-your-own-procedures) feature that lets you add PDF copies of procedures to airports. View our BYOP page for full instructions on how to use this feature.
Additionally, you can easily create, name, and store your own waypoints for viewing on the map and you can even include them in your routes and flight plans. View our waypoint importing instructions to add waypoints in bulk.
Last, you can import PDF, JPG, TIF, PNG, and GIF files into your Documents Binders using iTunes. Dropbox and Email can be used to import PDF documents into your Documents Binders. Please view our Pilot's Guide for more information.
¶ How much disk space will ForeFlight Mobile take up on my device?
The ForeFlight Mobile app alone (with no data downloaded) uses about 350 MB of space once installed on your device. The app plus minimum required downloads (Airport Database, Business Directory, North American Obstacles, Terrain Map, and World Map) but no charts or plates requires 1.5 GB of space.
For use in flight, ForeFlight Mobile can store airport diagrams, terminal procedures, and navigation charts for the United States and Canada. More storage space will be consumed once you start downloading charts, maps, documents, and more. The Downloads page (More button > Downloads) lists the approximate size of each download so you can estimate how much space is required for your selections.
Download sizes can vary greatly, depending upon your selections. If you want to download everything available, plan on the USA lower 48 States and Hawaii taking about 15.5 GB and Alaska taking up about 4.5 GB of storage space. Canada will require about 11 GB for all available downloads. Downloads for the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America take up about 1.9 GB.
If you do not plan on downloading all of the USA or Canada, a good rule of thumb for the USA is that each state requires, on average, 320 MB to download all items (i.e.: Terminal Procedures, IFR and VFR charts, WAC charts, High Resolution Terrain, etc). Larger states like Texas or California will require more space. Alaska alone takes up around 4.5 GB of space. Canada requires, on average, 850 MB per Province or Territory with all available items selected. Larger areas like Nunavut will take up about 3GB of space.
A few items displayed on the Downloads page display a compressed file size. This means the actual size, when de-compressed (un-zipped), will be larger when the file is installed. The compressed items are as follows:
- United States (lower 48) high resolution terrain is a 242 MB download and takes up 1 GB on disk.
- Mexico/Caribbean/Central America high resolution terrain is a 96 MB download and takes up 737MB on disk.
- Canada high resolution terrain is a 334 MB download and takes up 1.4 GB on disk.
- Alaska high resolution terrain is a 56 MB download and takes up 947 MB on disk.
- Worldwide low-resolution terrain map is a 61 MB download and takes up 320 MB on disk.
- Airport Database is a 133 MB download and takes up 670 MB on disk.
Approaching a chart cycle changeover date, pilots usually download the data update a few days before the 28 day changeover. The Delta Downloads feature significantly reduces the size of the next data cycle download because only the changed items are downloaded at each new data cycle.
With Delta Downloads, new data cycle downloads will typically require only an additional 10-20% of the currently used space. For example in an early 2016 download, downloading 49 states + 4 Canadian provinces required 15.6 GB of space during the data cycle, but only 17.1 GB of space during the change over, a difference of just 1.5 GB.
Once the new data cycle is effective, the old data will automatically be deleted after ForeFlight Mobile is opened. This automatic deletion process spans several minutes so as not to impact the performance of the app. All expired data can be immediately deleted by tapping the Delete button on the Downloads page and choosing "Delete Expired."
Downloading all of the documents and handbooks available in the United States subscription requires almost 1 GB of space.
¶ When does my subscription start?
When you purchase a ForeFlight Mobile subscription, you will be able to use ForeFlight Mobile immediately. Your free trial period ends upon the purchase of any paid subscription, which can be made via our Subscription Purchase Page
¶ What is included in the free 30 day trial version of ForeFlight Mobile?
During the free 30 day trial period, ForeFlight Mobile includes access to all of the ForeFlight Mobile Basic features except for the downloading of plates, charts, etc for offline use on the Downloads view, and the downloading of documents in the Documents view. Downloading of these items requires a paid subscription. A subscription purchase can be made via our Subscription Purchase Page.

A weather report's age is color coded as follows: - Green text is weather information that is 0 to 5 min old. - Blue text is weather information that is 6 to 30 minutes old. - Orange text is weather information that is 31-60 minutes old. - Red text is weather information that is over 60 minutes old.
¶ Why am I seeing a No Radar Available (or No Satellite Available) crosshatch on the Maps page?
If you have selected the Radar (or Satellite) layer on the Maps page but you have no internet, ADS-B, or XM weather data source, then you will get this crosshatch warning. Just unselect the Radar (or Satellite) layer until you have access to the internet or connect to an ADS-B or XM receiver.
¶ What do the black lines with black dots on the radar return mean?
These are storm track predictors. When storm cell paths are reasonably predictable, you will see a black line with black dots spaced at 20 minute intervals extending out from a storm cell that indicate the estimated position that storm will be in 0, 20, 40, and 60 minutes. The track lines make it easier to judge a storm's direction of movement and speed.

¶ How do I measure the distance between points on the map?
Distances can be measured on the Maps page by holding down two fingers on the map until the ruler appears. The ruler can be moved across the map to take measurements between any two points. The ruler is also handy for quickly visualizing great-circle (direct) routes between points. You can select whether statute miles or nautical miles are shown on the ruler by going to More > Settings > Units/Time (near the bottom) > Distance and selecting your preferred units. Feet are also shown on the ruler at three nautical miles or less, making it useful for gauging runway distances.
When using the ruler in flight, the current groundspeed will be used to show the travel time between the points being measured. When not in flight, the TAS from your current route or default aircraft will be used instead.
Fuel burn estimates are also shown using the fuel burn provided for the current route or from the default aircraft.
All time and fuel estimates are based on no-wind conditions.
¶ Why does the app say 'Account in Use' when I try to sign in?
You can use your subscription simultaneously on one iPhone, one iPad and one iPod Touch. If you're upgrading to a new device, you need to sign out on your old device before you'll be able to sign-in on the new one. Click here for instructions on signing out of your account.

¶ Will my Bose Model A20 headset work with ForeFlight Mobile and the Runway Proximity Advisor™ audio alerts?
It depends on when it was made. Early models of the Bose A20 headset do not support 'music' via bluetooth, even though the headset will allow 'phone' connections. Since the Runway Proximity Advisor™ alerts play via 'music', they can't be heard on the early Bose A20 headsets via bluetooth.
Starting in 2015, Bose updated the A20 headset to support 'music' via bluetooth, which also allows ForeFlight alerts to be transmitted via bluetooth to the headset. This update is integrated into the cord assembly.
If you have an early model Bose A20 headset, you can have it updated to support 'music' via bluetooth. Bose sells a version 2 cord assembly that can be shipped to you to replace your version 1 cord assembly. Please contact Bose at 800-233-4416.
Alternatively, you can purchase a male-male 3.5mm cord and plug the iPad's headphone jack into the 3.5mm port on the A20 control box or if your audio panel has an audio-in port, you could plug it in there.
Finally, some pilots have reported that using the Blulink Adaptor works to add Bluetooth 'music' to their headset.
¶ Why doesn't the App Store show any available updates for my ForeFlight Mobile app?
There are two common reasons for this problem:
1. You may be running an old version of the iPhone/iPad operating system (iOS). To update to the newest version please see Apple's Latest iOS Information Page.
2. If you are running the newest operating system, then the Apple servers may be experiencing a high volume. This can prevent the ForeFlight update notification. In this case you can upgrade by re-downloading the ForeFlight application.
¶ Can I open or launch ForeFlight Mobile from other apps using a URL scheme?
Yes. ForeFlight Mobile supports URL-based loading methods for loading views and data in the app. To use these, create a URL with the proper format and then click on that URL within an app that supports link-tapping, such as the iOS Mail app.
To launch ForeFlight Mobile and bring up a route on the Maps view, you can use a URL starting with this:
