How much does the geo-referencing package cost?

Geo-referenced plates and diagrams are included with the Pro Plus subscription plan, available for $199.99. This plan includes everything in the Basic Plus subscription plan as well as geo-referenced features, and much more. Visit our Purchasing page to learn more and upgrade to Pro Plus.

I already bought the Basic / Basic Plus ForeFlight package. How do I upgrade to Pro Plus?

Existing customers who upgrade to Pro Plus at the ForeFlight website are charged only the pro-rated difference between Pro Plus and the plan they are upgrading from. Note: Upgrades made using the in-app purchase button do not have their price pro-rated, but instead have the expiration date extended by a pro-rated amount.

Visit our Purchasing page and enter your ForeFlight email address on the checkout form and your pro-rated credit for the unused time on your existing plan will be computed and automatically applied. Make sure to use the same email that you used when you originally purchased your ForeFlight subscription.

After your purchase is complete, go into the 'Accounts' section inside the app, wait about 10 seconds, and your plan name will change to “Pro Plus”. You'll be able to immediately start seeing geo-referenced information on U.S. or Canada plates and diagrams.

If I'm upgrading to Pro Plus, do I have to pay the full $199.99 price?

Existing customers who upgrade to Pro Plus at the ForeFlight website are charged only the pro-rated difference between Pro Plus and the plan they are upgrading from.

IMPORTANT: Upgrades made using the in-app purchase button do not have their price pro-rated, but instead have the expiration date extended by a pro-rated amount.

How can I tell if a plate or diagram has geo-referencing?

Look for the faint blue box around the geo-referenced area. Your aircraft will only be displayed when it is within this area.

Do I need to download anything after purchasing the Pro Plus plan?

No. As soon as you purchase, you'll be able to immediately start using geo-referenced plates and diagrams. As part of the purchasing process we update the data inside the app to enable the new functionality.

I bought Pro / Pro Plus but geo-referencing isn't showing up.

    Follow these troubleshooting tips:

    • Go into 'Accounts' and confirm that your plan reads 'ForeFlight Pro' or 'Pro Plus'. If not, wait 10 seconds for the plan to download to your device. If it still doesn't show up, try signing out of your account and then signing back in.
    • Go to 'Downloads' and make sure you have downloaded the latest version of the Airport Database and Terminal Procedures.
Make sure you are viewing a plate or diagram that has geo-referencing. Geo-referencing is not available on arrivals, departures, text documents, and airports outside of the United States or Canada.
    • If you see the faint blue box but do not see your aircraft position, that means your GPS is having a problem getting a fix. See our GPS tips for help.

Do I need the Pro Plus plan to see moving map?

No. Upgrading to Pro Plus only adds georeferencing to instrument procedures and taxi diagrams. Moving map and georeferencing on VFR sectionals and IFR charts are included with the Basic Plus subscription plan.

Do I need the Pro Plus plan to see instrument procedures or taxi diagrams?

No. The Basic Plus subscription plan includes instrument procedures and taxi diagrams for U.S. airports. Upgrading to Pro Plus only adds geo-referencing information to these plates in order to see aircraft position.

Are geo-referenced plates a replacement for my aircraft's avionics?

No. Geo-referenced airport diagrams and plates can improve situational awareness on the ground, but are not certified for navigation. Pilots should always fly the aircraft using the aircraft's certified avionics. Never make course or altitude changes based on the data given by the device - always fly using your panel instrumentation. Additionally, personal electronic devices such as the iPad and iPhone can take attention away from the most important and demanding task: flying the airplane and arriving safely. Use personal electronic devices in an aircraft only when workload and conditions permit. Always enhance your iOS device's GPS performance by using an external, Apple-approved GPS accessory.

For what geographic areas do you offer geo-referenced instrument procedures?

We currently offer geo-referenced instrument procedures and taxi diagrams for airports in the United States and Canada.
