ForeFlight announced today the upcoming release of Dynamic Procedures, an interactive and streamlined solution for viewing instrument procedures, marking a significant step forward in the company’s mission to deliver a fully data-driven experience for instrument pilots. Integrated directly into the familiar Maps view, this capability provides pilots with critical procedural information exactly when and where they need it, while removing non-relevant details to create a highly filtered and clutter-free presentation.
“Dynamic Procedures is a milestone toward a fully interactive, chart-free IFR experience. Instead of re-drawing a traditional chart, we provide pilots just the procedure details they need in concert with our primary data-driven map—filtering the procedure to what is relevant, yet keeping it in context with weather, traffic, terrain, and obstacles. It’s the easiest way to brief an approach—and to quickly reference it again as part of your scan. This feature is the result of years of rigorous craftsmanship. Dynamic Procedures raises the bar on optimal procedure depiction in the rapidly expanding realm of data-driven pilot solutions, and reflects ForeFlight’s relentless focus on an elegant and safety-enhancing user experience. We’re just getting started—expect expanded coverage, new procedure types, and continuous improvements.” - Travis Root, Vice President of Product.
Built on strong foundations
Dynamic Procedures relies on foundational IFR capabilities built over years of industry-leading advancements in aviation technology. Plates on Maps represented one of ForeFlight’s first major innovations for IFR pilots as it integrated the classic approach plate into a moving map display, giving pilots a more complete picture and tools for better situational awareness. Procedure Advisor, introduced in 2015, created a streamlined workflow for procedure selection and simplified the process of loading and activating an approach on the fly.
Augmented Procedures, introduced gradually beginning in 2018, set the stage for Dynamic Procedures with support for procedure fix labels displayed along the route and dynamic approach minimum selection. Now, these foundational successes have paved the way for the future of instrument flying with the context-aware Dynamic Procedures sidebar.
Powered by world-class Jeppesen data
Like many of ForeFlight’s existing capabilities, Dynamic Procedures is powered by Jeppesen’s industry-leading global aviation data — the same trusted, highly accurate dataset relied upon by airlines and both professional and recreational pilots worldwide.
“With ForeFlight Dynamic Procedures, you now have Jeppesen’s gold-standard procedure data seamlessly rendered directly onto your moving map, customized to your aircraft and route. It’s the accuracy of Jeppesen charts, coupled with the intuitive design of ForeFlight, making IFR approaches simpler and smarter than ever before — shooting an approach has never been this easy.”-Mike Ross, Jeppesen’s Head of Global Data.
Dynamic Procedures is currently leveraging only a small subset of Jeppesen’s full dataset, but with an entire planet’s worth of aeronautical data available for use, the possibilities are limitless. Initial coverage includes all 50 U.S. states, Canada and the Pacific Islands, with expanded support already in the works.
Streamlined workflow with a procedure sidebar
The new Dynamic Procedures sidebar provides a clean, collapsible information display panel with all of the information necessary to brief and fly an instrument approach in one place. Because it is context-aware, it presents just the information you need in a highly structured and streamlined format, and integrates other existing features like 3D View to provide value above and beyond any pre-composed chart.
Exciting features of the Dynamic Procedures sidebar include:
- Change Approach and Hide Chart buttons make it easy to view or hide the sidebar and access other approach options with a single tap.
- A consolidated briefing strip pins essential procedure information to the top for easy access.
- Communication frequencies are clearly organized for quick reference.
- Notes are intelligently filtered to show only the information that applies to your current approach.
- The dynamic route display provides heading and distance metrics, per-segment speed and altitude restrictions, as well as additional notes for special segments like course reversals and arcs.
- Integrated 3D Airport view allows the user to preview the runway environment and approach lighting systems from two simulated perspectives. Toggle between Approach Lights and Short Final views, and quickly open the airport in the full 3D view to switch between night and day modes, providing a complete picture of the runway’s approach lighting configuration as well as local terrain and obstacles.

Other powerful innovations to the map and beyond
A number of other new innovations in addition to the sidebar round out the Dynamic Procedures experience. MSA rings are now displayed directly on the map, with support for segmented MSAs where applicable. Safe circling areas are also depicted directly on the map for a growing list of airports.
APCH mode in Profile View adds another dimension to the approach during both briefing and flying. It brings the plan and profile views of traditional approach plates to life, giving you a dynamic visual reference that enhances your mental picture of the procedure.
Future enhancements
Data-driven format with Jeppesen’s full global set of NavData means this capability has only just left the runway, with an unrestricted climb ahead. Future enhancements already in the works include support for depicting TAAs directly on the map in addition to MSAs, and support for departure and arrival procedures in the Dynamic Procedures sidebar, providing a powerful chart replacement for the full range of instrument procedures.

Release and availability
The ForeFlight team will be demoing Dynamic Procedures along with other upcoming and new features in the Boeing Pavilion at EAA AirVenture 2025 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Dynamic Procedures will be released publicly following the show, with initial support for all U.S. states plus Canada and the Pacific Islands. The feature will launch with a 3-month preview period for all customers in supported regions, including access to the Plates on Maps feature — normally available with Essential plans and above — for Starter subscription plans. Following this preview period, Dynamic Procedures will also require the Essential plan or above.
Dynamic Procedures will be available for all Business accounts at launch, but will be disabled by default to ensure it can be rolled out to pilots in alignment with any necessary changes to OpSpecs or pilot training. Account administrators can optionally enable the feature for all users on the account via a new setting switch in the Organization Settings tab on ForeFlight Web.
