This webinar event (recorded May 2016) is an advanced ForeFlight course. Dominik walks you through both VFR and IFR features of the app from a Canadian perspective. You will learn how to use the app to its fullest from planning to inflight navigation. Pilots at any level will learn something new, however this course is beyond beginner level and is geared towards pilots who have at least some working knowledge of the app.
Jeppesen's global charts, terrain, obstacles, and NavData® are coming to ForeFlight Mobile – your all-in-one solution for planning, briefing, filing, flying, and logging flights. We are excited to announce this partnership that is truly greater than the sum of its charts. Our long-term strategic alliance with Jeppesen will advance the development and delivery of innovative products and services faster than either organization could deliver on its own. In addition to user waypoints and user map layers, ForeFlight now allows you to import User Charts that you can manage and display on the map.
The User Charts feature supports MBTiles, an open source file format developed by MapBox that allows for efficient compression and distribution of large charts. The feature does not yet support vector charts, which can also use the .mbtiles extension. A great tool for creating your own MBtiles is MapTiler, which is free to download and allows you to quickly georeference and export raster charts.
ForeFlight MFB (the version of ForeFlight built for US government, military, and DOD aviation) now allows authorized and authenticated customers to download and display the worldwide library of US Department of Defense military mission planning charts, including Joint Operations Graphics (JOG), Tactical Pilot Charts (TPC), Operational Navigation Charts (ONC), and Range charts.
A new interactive Graphical Chart Manager makes it fast and easy to select and download only the desired charts from the thousands available in the library.
The charts use the newest format standard in military digital chart technology, developed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, called Enhanced Compression Raster Graphics (ECRG), and when combined with ForeFlight’s compression process technology, results in faster over-the-air (wireless) downloads, less storage space, higher resolution, and quicker load times.
Jeppesen’s global enroute charts are now available in ForeFlight Mobile for all customers who have purchased or linked Jeppesen chart coverages. No matter what Jeppesen coverage you have, you can download the entire set of global VFR and IFR enroute charts, at no additional cost and with no setup or configuration required.
Jeppesen enroute charts are not available for the following iOS devices: iPad Mini 1, iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPhone 5 and below.
ForeFlight customers can now add Jeppesen’s industry-leading charts and associated documents to their subscription with a simple online purchase, then download and view those charts in ForeFlight.
If you already have a Jeppesen chart subscription or want to purchase Jeppesen charts for a multi-pilot account, check out our other video on linking an existing Jeppesen account to ForeFlight.
To further streamline your planning workflow on Flights, you’ll find a quick access button to Pack directly below the Flight Log. Just like the ‘suitcase’ button on the Maps view, tap ‘Pack and it will analyze your route and package up all of the charts, data, NOTAM, and weather information (including Icing and Turbulence for Pro Plus and Performance Plus customers) you’ll need to access offline during your flight.
