Logbook Photos and More

Nov. 14, 2016

ForeFlight Logbook allows you to save memories of flights by attaching unlimited photos to flight entries, aircraft profiles, certificates, and endorsements. Use photos to capture the view on approach to the runway, keep a visual record of squawks, or take a selfie of you and your passengers. Also export an FAA 8710 report to serve as a guide for filling out your Airman Certificate/Rating Application, and track your medical certificates, knowledge tests, and aircraft type ratings.
Managing Downloads
Before you take off, be sure to download all the charts, maps, and information you will need for your flight. This video shows you how to do this.
Aircraft Manager for Multi-Pilot Accounts

Multi-pilot account administrators can manage and distribute company aircraft profiles to all the pilots on an account, allowing for easier aircraft management and reduced setup time for large accounts.

Shared aircraft appear in the Aircraft list for all pilots on the account, along with a tag showing the email address of the administrator who published the aircraft. Pilots can view the details of shared aircraft and use them for flight planning, but all details of the aircraft are locked from editing by the pilots, including the performance profiles.

If the account administrator makes any changes to a shared aircraft, a “Publish Changes” button will appear in the bottom-right, allowing them to instantly distribute the changes to every pilot on the account. Clicking “Unpublish” will revoke access to the aircraft for all users other than the administrator, and they will no longer be able to see or use the aircraft for flight planning.

Dark App Theme

ForeFlight now allows you to apply a dark theme to the entire app. Go to More - Settings and tap App Theme at the top, then tap Dark. This darkens the background colors on most pages while maintaining highlight colors and prominent white text, so important information is easily visible.

ForeFlight Checklist

ForeFlight Checklist integrates one of the most important inflight tools at your disposal into the app you already use for every stage of flight, reducing cockpit clutter and providing an intuitive, simple interface. Checklist is included with our Basic Plus and Pro Plus subscription plans, or as an add-on with other plans. Upgrade at foreflight.com/pricing.

Improved Planning Features

ForeFlight now offers an enhanced flight planning workflow thanks to improvements to aircraft, the Maps view flight plan editor, and the File & Brief view, which is now called “Flights”.

This video is for ForeFlight customers with subscription plans other than Performance Plus, including the original plans and the Basic Plus and Pro Plus plans. If you have the Performance Plus plan, or want to see what is different with that plan, check out our Performance video series.

Track Logs
ForeFlight Mobile's Track Logging feature allows you to record your flights and view them in Google Earth or on ForeFlight.com, or share them with others.

Logbook Currency Details
Tap on any Currency Summary in ForeFlight Logbook to see detailed information about your progress towards that currency. In the Currency Detail view, the top section shows your progress towards satisfying currency as well as a short description of the FAA requirements for that currency type. Beneath that is a list of all the flights that contribute to currency, followed by a list of all the flights that do not contribute, but which fall within the currency's timeframe, such as 90 days for general VFR currency, and 6 months for IFR currency. This organization makes it easy to see how your flights affect currency, and allows you to easily track down and fix errors in flight entries that should contribute to currency.
Logbook CFI Currency & Aircraft Details

ForeFlight Logbook now supports currency tracking for CFIs, and provides helpful at-a-glance information in the Logbook Aircraft list.

Logbook Aircraft Profile Helper
Complete aircraft profile information is critical to accurate flight currency reporting - ForeFlight Logbook highlights missing information to help your currencies stay on track. If you add an aircraft with missing details to a flight, a warning symbol appears in your currency detail views. Tap on it to see which aircraft need attention and to add the missing information. ForeFlight highlights the relevant fields so you can quickly resolve the issue and get your currency reporting back on track.
Logbook Detail Reports

ForeFlight now supports exporting your entire digital logbook in a traditional logbook format, which you can then print for sharing, gifting, or storing for your records. The new format is available in the Logbook Reports tab, along with the experience and progress reports. Two options are available - condensed and complete.

A common difficulty you may experience when trying to print Logbook detail reports on double-sided pages is that the text on either side of each page is flipped. This is caused by the printer’s binding settings - the default for most printers is long-edge binding, while the detail reports require that short-edge binding be used. This video demonstrates how to change this setting using Adobe Acrobat, but the process may be different based on what printer and program you use.

User Map Layers

Visit foreflight.com/map-shapes for additional information about this feature and to download sample KML files.

Import Custom User Charts

In addition to user waypoints and user map layers, ForeFlight now allows you to import User Charts that you can manage and display on the map.

The User Charts feature supports MBTiles, an open source file format developed by MapBox that allows for efficient compression and distribution of large charts. The feature does not yet support vector charts, which can also use the .mbtiles extension. A great tool for creating your own MBtiles is MapTiler, which is free to download and allows you to quickly georeference and export raster charts.

TFR Alerts
TFR Alerts enhance your inflight situational awareness by warning you of nearby TFRs, whether or not the TFR layer is selected. If ForeFlight detects that you will enter or pass near a TFR within the next five minutes, it will give you a visual and auditory alert. Alerts are also triggered if you enter a TFR, or fly above or below a TFR at a nearby altitude. You can adjust settings related to TFR alerts by tapping More, then Settings, then scroll down to Alerts.
Smart Airway Labels
In ForeFlight's Aeronautical Maps, Smart Airway Labels provide at-a-glance information about airways in your route. When your route includes one or more airways, labels appear along each airway segment. As you zoom in the labels expand to show more information, including the airway’s name, MEA, MOCA, if the segment has one, and the magnetic bearing. You can disable airway labels by tapping map settings and turning off Route Labels. Smart Airway Labels are just one more way to get useful information from ForeFlight without having to dig for it.
Customize the Aeronautical Map
ForeFlight's data-driven Aeronautical Maps allow you to customize which map elements you show or hide. You can also choose between Light, Dark, and Classic map themes and toggle terrain features on and off. With the Aeronautical layer selected you can add or remove airspace, view high or low airways, and adjust label text size. Try mixing and matching the new map settings to find the combination that works best for you.
Single Tap

Single Tap for airports, waypoints, navaids, and airways is a feature of Aeronautical Maps that allows you to quickly access information on the Maps view. With the Aeronautical layer selected, simply quick tap on any airport, waypoint, VOR, or airway to see details about it. Tap Add to Route to drop it into your route.

Opacity Sliders
This handy feature on the Maps view allows you to adjust the opacity of weather overlays and TFRs so you can see details on the chart underneath, without having to remove the overlay entirely. If your subscription includes geo-referenced plates you can also adjust the opacity of plates and taxi charts overlaid on the map.
Pack For Your Flight
Pack is like a trip kit and ensures you'll never be caught in the air without the charts, maps, NOTAMs, and other important data you need. Pack analyzes your route and queues up what is missing from your device - download everything to your iPad or iPhone with a single tap. Charts downloaded with Pack can be found in the Downloads view and deleted after a flight, and more temporary data like weather and fuel prices are automatically removed after reconnecting to Wi-Fi.
FBOs on Taxi Charts
Use this feature to quickly access ForeFlight's FBO Directory information right from the Taxi Chart. FBO markers make it easy to see exactly where an airport FBO is located. Tap on the FBO marker to check fuel prices and view the available services and amenities for that business.
